Strengthen your business by utilizing the ‘basics’

Collateral, or marketing collateral, is the collection of any and all media used to support the sales of a product or service.  From your business card to the brochure, these sales aids are intended to make the sales effort easier and more effective. Your company’s brand is enhanced by the collateral pieces that represent you.

Color Palate and Logo

The cornerstone of every good brand

One of the more underrated touch points, possibly because it is seen but not noticed. The colors selected softly speak volumes of what you do and can be the difference between an okay logo and an awesome logo. Colors should convey tone and subtlety, communicate position and garner participation. Financial companies tend to use greens and blues, never red; while children’s products’ colors are bright and colorful.  Whatever the product, the color helps tell the story.

When creating a good brand, the logo immediately follows. The initial lack of customers and cash flow often causes new small business owners to put off professionally designing a logo and marketing materials “until they get a few clients” or “until they get started.” Unfortunately, launching without a logo, or designing their own marketing materials will make getting those initial clients more difficult and may result in a business that will not succeed. Everybody knows the logo is a little graphic that is used to represent the company. A logo creates a business’ first impression and can be an illustration, text only, or both.  It should be clean, balanced and crisp as it speaks volumes for your business.

If you leave it behind, it MUST look good

So you have a website, business card and a brochure; now its time to visit the client and make your pitch. Go the extra mile and have your printed presentation materials reinforce your brand. Tie it all together and seal the deal by extending your brand to your brochure and presentation materials.  If you are going to leave it behind, it is crucial you don't end up getting "caught in the clutter" with every other company who's pitching for business.  If your business practice is to simply follow up with an email, forget it! Email is a great communication tool, but effective follow up merits more. Show your clients that they are a priority buy giving them something. Stand out! Let your presentation materials communicate your value even when you are not there.
